Where to Stay in Savannah

As Savannah locals, we have our opinions about the best places to stay in the Hostess City! Generally, it will be most expensive to stay in the Downtown and Tybee Island areas, but there are often deals to be had! You can almost always save a little money by booking in Midtown Savannah (anything south of DeRenne Avenue). Unlike many cities, Downtown Savannah is located to the north, the further south you go, the more money you may be able to save.

Another hint, hotels near the airport in Pooler can also be budget-friendly. However, the drive from Pooler to Savannah is often packed with traffic and slow due to construction. Travel time is hard to predict.

The Savannah area is not lacking in hotels (a new hotel is opened nearly every month), so shop around find your best deal!

If your troop is looking for a vacation rental, we highly recommend using Lucky Savannah. Lucky Savannah has rentals across Downtown and Midtown Savannah. Also, the owner is very attentive (and many celebrities rent from Lucky Savannah when they are in town filming – yay Georgia film tax incentives).

Thunderbird Inn is a retro motel sure to please.

Thunderbird Inn

The Thunderbird Inn is a fun, retro motel located on the edge of the Downtown area. The motel is within walking distance from everything in the Downtown area. As the saying goes, “discounted downtown Savannah lodging was never so much fun!”

The DeSoto is a welcoming hotel.

The DeSoto

We highly recommend The Desoto Hotel. It routinely has some of the best room prices in town and it has a rooftop pool! The hotel is newly renovated and the rooms are fairly spacious.

Yes, the Royal Palms is another retro motel we love! It is owned by a fun group of Savannah locals and this motel was recently given a huge facelift! Rates are great and the hotel is just blocks from the beach.
